OUR TALENT:
Matt & Erica Shipman will be performing for us this evening!
Matt plays guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo and Old Time 5-string banjo. (Wowza!) He's passionate about music, and expresses his passion in many ways - from studying traditional music in college to collecting songs and stories from people in Maine, Nova Scotia, and North Carolina to produce a radio documentary, to teaching at 317 Main St. Community Music Center. Listen to Matt's music to feel how his studies and experiences influenced him.
Erica Shipman nee Brown has been making music since childhood and may now be seen performing with Erica Brown & The Bluegrass Connection, The Stowaways, Darlin’ Corey and The Record Family Band. In 2006, she was awarded a Maine Arts Commission Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Award and was recognized as a MAC Master Artist the same year. Erica combines country, bluegrass and classical for a fun, unexpected performance every time.
Dugan Murphy, Contra Dance Caller, is the acclaimed caller who brought you neon t-shirts, raucous pants, and hundreds of fun dance experiences across the U.S. He'll be introducing Mike Hanes, a new caller from Maine, who will also teach a dance!
AND AFTER:
Join us from 10 p.m. 'til close for snacks and drinks just down the street at Local 188 (just West of Longfellow Square). They've created a new tapas menu just for us, and will offer PICD dancers a discount on drinks and grub. Sweet, ain't they? All ages welcome!
DIRECTIONS AND PARKING:
Directions may be found on the State Street Church website.
Parking is free after 6pm on street around the State Street/West End neighborhood. We recommend saving extra time, as it might take a bit to find a spot.
