BALFOLK: WHAT IS IT?
Like contra, balfolk dance is social, easy to learn, and danced to live music. It's participatory—you dance with everyone in the room! The dances vary in choreography, from partner dances to full group dances, and come from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Poland. The term bal folk is French and literally means a folk ball!
Mary will host a beginner's lesson before the bal. During the bal, teaching will be lighter than contra—you're encouraged to attend the lesson!
