Join us for a concert, modern dance performance, and participatory contra dance with Palaver Strings!
Palaver Strings in an abandoned speakeasy called Tammany House in Long Island City, NY.
This is a very special event that will feature a classical concert by Palaver Strings of Boston with dancing. Palaver Strings will play music by Romanian composer, George Enesco (Octet for Strings in C major, Opus 7), then present a performance of modern dance by Chavi Bansal and the Vimoksha Dance Company. A participatory contra dance led by local caller, Dela Murphy will follow, with more music by Palaver.

Concert and modern dance performance 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

OUR TALENT:
Join Palaver Strings for an adventurous exploration of the relationship between music and dance, featuring George Enesco's Octet for Strings with choreography by Chavi Bansal and members of Vimoksha Dance Company. In the second half of the program, all are invited to join in for a contra dance. Palaver will be joined by local caller Dela Murphy along with instrumentalists Neil Pearlman, Owen Marshall and Baron Collins-Hill.

WHAT TO WEAR:
If you’re new to contra dancing or participatory dance, know that you should wear comfortable clothing in which you feel alright breaking a sweat. Shoes should be soft-soled and comfortable. Sneakers work great! We’ll ask that you clean your shoes, change into soft-soled indoor-only shoes, or remove your shoes when you arrive.

Parking is free after 6pm on street around the State Street/West End neighborhood. You may also park at The Fresh Approach Market or The Reiche School on Brackett Street. See the parking info and map. We recommend saving extra time, as it might take a bit to find a spot
